I could not believe this when I first read it and still do not now over two years later.

On December 1, 2009 I watched/heard retired CIA director, Gen. Mike Hayden say the following (Automatically Generated Transcript AND may not be 100% accurate)

FOX NEWS: "If he is setting up shop where well Dearborn Michigan which houses the largest Muslim American population in the US and -- looking for some new recruits."

FOX NEWS: "So this morning we asked the question is that a good idea former CIA Director General Michael Hayden joins us now -- for this program. -- Brian I really haven't this is actually a continuation of something that's been going on under the last four CIA directors is a good news story."

FOX NEWS: " And because the CIA is in dire need. Of people who can speak the language right."

HAYDEN: " Well that's true and people with cultural awareness I mean CIA . Have to look like America because we need to harvest all the talent that's available in this great country neither. Large very talented communities that we can recruit. Engineers scientist administrators from the beyond that they had they also cultural background in additional Black America. The agency has to look a bit like the world. And by recruiting these Americans in Dearborn in Phoenix in Fremont California and and other places like that oh we get. To have the the advantage of being an immigrant nation right residents mainly Lebanese and Iraqi say it's gonna be difficult for the CIA to recruit there. Do you agree.... I do and if it fell it's a long time challenge for us. We've begun to build more than five years ago and I could use the word -- it kinda socialize the idea. Of the Central Intelligence Agency to these immigrant communities first and second generation Americans we've been a sponsor of the Arab American festival on Dearborn Michigan since 2003. We just want these communities become more aware of what CIA is really light and we think as they become more familiar with the agency. Will be as successful recruiting in these communities is where we are successful elsewhere."

FOX NEWS: "I have to ask you the controversial question general because in light of the Fort Hood shooting. And the fact that one of our own a member of the military accused of having radical Muslim ideas as to the reason why he did the shootings. Do you have any concerns. When it comes to recruiting. Muslims."

HAYDEN: "No more or fewer concerns that we would have great great recruiting. Other groups. And let me be very clear as to why and I'd be very candid about this CIA distrust everyone without regard to creed. The race place of origin. We vet all of our applicants incredibly thoroughly in fact it's almost a painful process. That we put these Americans of whatever persuasion through so we have a high level of confidence now nothing's perfect. But we have a high level of confidence in all of our officers. As are brought on board Michael generally we have a lot of breaking news today wish I had more time but thanks so much for sharing your insight and we'll have you back as this situation continues to unfold and see if we have success to talk about. Thanks thank you very much."
