"hardline" interpretation?

My only comment on this otherwise informative article is the use of that adjective "hardline". Does Mr Rossomando mean to say that there is some mainline interpretation of the Koran, or the words and spirit of Mohammed, that is NOT hardline? My own study and pondering of "radical", "fundamentalist", "Islamist' or "hardline" Islam leads me to the conclusion that all those adjectives are superfluous. The jihadists in Syria, however violent, seem to be simply Good Muslims, behaving exactly as the Koran prescribes, and as the "Prophet' would approve and admire. It is any Muslims who are appalled by such behavior who are falling away from Islam, and are therefore Bad Muslims, if also decent human beings.
