Dr. Esam Omeish? He is an impressive local son who graduated with honors with a 4.0 GPA after 2-1/2 years as an ESL student at J.E.B. Stuart High School. He went on to double major in medicine and government at Georgetown University and graduated on the Dean's List. He then studied at Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his residency in General Surgery. His father is Salem Omeish, an accomplished economist, governor in Libya, and U.N diplomat and his mother Samira Elyazigi. His parents and siblings have lived in Fairfax County since 1982 where the extended family is raising the next Omeish generation. Married for 16 years, Esam Omeish is the proud father of 4 bright children who attend Fairfax Co. Schools and participate in the gifted and talented programs. The children's mother, Badria Kafala, has a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and is a local Girl Scout and Cub Scout troop organizer. Esam's involvement with charities since high school made a big impression upon him at an early age. It was then he realized his need to work in a medical career to best alleviate the human suffering he saw. Dr. Esam Omeish has worked as the Chief of General Surgery at INOVA Alexandria Hospital since he was elected in 2006. To date he has performed over 5000 surgeries and has treated over 7500 patients. As a public service, he helped to start the local "Community Medical Clinic" as it's Chairman of the Board. He provided free clinical and surgical care to uninsured patients who would otherwise have to go without the necessary medical attention. In 2007, his peers nominated him for the prestigious "Outstanding Physician of the Year" award because of his unselfish commitment to providing excellent healthcare for insured and uninsured patients alike.
