A two-count indictment charged Canadian national and former San Diego resident Abdullahi Ahmed Abdullahi with providing, and conspiring with other individuals in the United States and Canada to provide, material support to terrorists engaged in violent activities in Syria, that is, a conspiracy to murder, kidnap and maim persons in a foreign country. Abdullahi made his initial appearance in federal court on Oct. 25, 2019 following his extradition to the United States on charges that he conspired with others to provide material support to terrorists engaged in violent activities in Syria. Abdullahi pled guilty in December 2021, admitting that he conspired with others to provide material support to terrorists engaged in violent activities such as murder, kidnapping, and maiming of persons in Syria.
