USA v. Ceasar, Sinmyah Amera
Brooklyn, NY

Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS)

[EDNY] Sinmyah Amera Ceasar from New Jersey was arrested and charged with material support to ISIS in 2016. She signed a cooperation agreement with the federal government and was let go on supervised release. She, however, continued to support ISIS and was re-arrested and charged with obstruction of a government proceeding in March to which she subsequently pleaded guilty. Ceasar was initially sentenced to 48-months in prison, but the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan threw out what it called a "shockingly low" four-year prison term for Ceasar who admitted to supporting Islamic State. The Court ordered that she be resentenced.
