USA v. Pugh, Tairod Nathan Webster Pugh
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS
[EDNY] Tairod Nathan Webster Pugh, an American citizen and veteran of the United States Air Force, was charged with attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and attempted obstruction of justice. Pugh, a former avionics specialist, traveled from Egypt to Turkey in an effort to cross the border into Syria to join ISIL. Pugh was convicted of attempting to provide material support to ISIL and obstruction of an official proceeding. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison for attempting to join ISIS and obstruction of Justice.
