US v. Al Moayad, Mohammed Ali Hassan, et al.
Brooklyn, NY

Al Qaeda, Hamas

[EDNY] In March 2005 Sheik Mohammed Ali Hassan Al-Moayad and Mohammed Mohsen Zayed were convicted on charges of conspiring to support al Qaeda and Hamas. A federal appeals court ruled in Oct 2008 that defendants Mohammed Al-Moayad and Mohammed Mohsen Zayed can have new trials. In separate plea deals August 2009 Al-Moayad and Zayed pleaded guilty only to conspiring to provide material support to Hamas. A judge sentenced both the defendants to time served and ordered them to be released and deported to Yemen.
