As a former inmate in the NY penal system I was at the time a muslim and confined during the 911 attack at the world trade center. I have left the religion of Islam for over ten years now partly due to discouragement at what I saw and heard among the brotherhood and some Imams, As well as common sense Thank God. I am very proud to say that I am back to my faith of my upbringing which is Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Everything that this article is saying is true because I witnessed myself. There is a type of Islam that's being preached now that wasn't there to my knowledge in the past called Salafism or the Salafi school of thought. It states that it is the precise teachings of Prophet Muhammid which to some extent that's true, but with a twist towards extremist views taking one back to the 7th Century Islam. There lies the problem of radicalization. Upon seeing this for myself I decided to leave this ideology and go back to Christianity the religion of my birth. I was afraid to say anything up until now for fear of reprisal. For they teach that if one should leave Islam they should be killed. I have met and heard Umar myself while locked up and Salahuddin who are both looked up to in the penal system and who are very persuasive. (However I know Islam doesn't teach to kill innocent people or harm those who are what they call non-combatants i.e. civilians. Nor are they to destroy or harm women, children, old folks, animals or plants according to Qu'ran) So these so-called terrorist have distorted the religion of Islam for their own purposes)
