The essential question here is not whether or not the study of Western Civilization is to be eliminated - the essential question is WHY would it be eliminated as a field of study. What is the purpose? The answer is simple. Whoever controls the educational materials controls the society. If Western Civilization allows the elimination of its history as a field of study we are witness to the realization of the nightmare that is described in George Orwell's novel 1984. Perhaps the left-wing liberal proponents should take a moment to read Orwell's disturbing novel to see where their idiotic demands will lead.
