Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS)

[SDNY] Sajmir Alimehmeti (a.k.a Abdul Qawii) of the Bronx, New York, was charged with attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) as well as for making a false statement in an application for a U.S. passport. Alimehmeti allegedly attempted to assist an individual who was purportedly traveling from New York to Syria to train and fight with ISIS but who was actually an undercover law enforcement employee. Alimehmeti pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to ISIS and to committing passport fraud in order to facilitate an act of international terrorism.
